What is a units reduction?

A units reduction is when a payer pays for fewer units of a service than the provider billed.

Time-based and quantity-based codes, such as therapy minutes, infusions or drugs, are billed in units. If the payer pays fewer units than billed without a valid reason, the claim is underpaid by the value of the missing units.
